RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks officially finalized the changes to their coaching staff on Friday.
The addition of Steve Shimko as an offensive assistant was the only change to the coaching staff not previously reported.
Additionally, three assistant coaches - Carl Smith, Dave Canales and Nate Carroll - have new roles for 2018. Smith was named associate head coach after serving as the team's quarterbacks coach for the last seven seasons. Canales moves from wide receivers coach to quarterbacks coach to replace Smith, and Carroll moves up from assistant wide receivers coach to the full-time job.
While Canales has the quarterbacks coach title, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will be heavily involved with the coaching of Russell Wilson and will handle the majority of the duties. Schottenheimer is expected to be a regular fixture in the team's quarterbacks meeting room.
While the team doesn't have a head linebackers coach in title, defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. is expected to have a hand at coaching the group as well. Norton served as the team's linebackers coach for five seasons before spending the last three years as defensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders.
In totality, the Seahawks added six new coaches with eight coaches leaving the staff.
