Seahawks re-sign safety Bradley McDougald

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed safety Bradley McDougald on a three-year deal worth $13.95 million, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

The Seahawks announced the deal officially Monday afternoon without disclosing terms.

McDougald was set to be an unrestricted free agent at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and was already permitted to begin speaking with other teams about possible opportunities. Instead, Seattle keeps a veteran safety in house that could help mitigate the uncertainty surrounding Kam Chancellor. Chancellor’s future remains uncertain due to a career-threatening neck injury. Additionally, free safety Earl Thomas has been a subject of interest from other teams looking to potentially acquire the All-Pro in trade.

McDougald can play both free and strong safety and filled in for both Thomas and Chancellor a season ago when they missed time with injuries.

McDougald has 75 tackles in 16 games for Seattle last season. He started nine games in total last season.

The Seahawks also released cornerback DeShawn Shead on Monday. However, Seattle hopes to re-sign him, as detailed in our story from Saturday.
