Duane Brown signs contract extension with Seahawks

RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks have reached an agreement with left tackle on a reported three-year contract extension.

Brown signed his deal Saturday afternoon, according to his instagram feed.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the deal is worth $36.5 million and will keep Brown under contract through the 2021 season.

The deal included $16 million in guaranteed money and $46.25 million in total over the four years of the deal.

General manager John Schneider said last season when the team acquired Brown in a trade with the Houston Texans that he wanted Brown to finish his career with the Seahawks. The extension signed Saturday goes a long way toward making that a reality.

Brown held out from training camp with the Texans last season before reporting during their bye week. He played one game against Seattle before being traded to the Seahawks and playing the rest of the season. Brown hasn't complained about his contract situation since joining Seattle and expressed optimism that a deal would ultimately get done.

However, the reality that Brown just received a contract extension while free safety Earl Thomas remains away from the team can't be overlooked. Thomas has said he won't join the team until he gets resolution to his contract situation, which, like Brown, has one-year remaining.

Brown has been with Seattle for half of one season while Thomas has been a perennial All-Pro candidate and has spent his entire career with the Seahawks. Brown, who will turn 33 next month, is also four years older than Thomas.

That Brown is getting a contract extension and Thomas isn't likely won't sit well with the latter and could exacerbate any existing rifts between the Seahawks and Thomas.

The Seahawks also signed wide receiver Marvin Bracy and waived long snapper Tanner Carew
