Chris Carson, Bradley McDougald "sore" after leaving game against Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers v Seattle Seahawks

RENTON -- Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that running back Chris Carson and safety Bradley McDougald were both feeling the effects of injuries that knocked them out of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Carson left the game in the second quarter and was seen with an ice wrap around his left thigh prior to halftime due to a hip injury that had limited him in practice last week.

McDougald also had to leave the game around halftime as a knee issue that kept him from practice most of the week tightened up.

"He’s sore, but he was sore last week and he made it through.," Carroll said of Carson. "We’ll have to wait and see, we’ll just go day-to-day with him. We’ll take care of him early in the week and see how he rounds out later in the week."

Carson carried eight times for 40 yards before being forced to the sidelines. Seattle's rushing attack was far less effective in his absence.

McDougald was replaced by Delano Hill for much of the second half. He had managed to only get limited work in during practice on Thursday a week ago.

"Pretty sore again," Carroll said of McDougald. "He was sore last week, and he was pretty sore today again. He went back in the game because we needed him for a play, but he really wasn’t able to finish it. We’ll have to wait and see. Last week was really as quiet week for him. He didn’t practice much of anything and I wouldn’t think it would be much different this week, and we’ll see how he is on game day."

The one positive injury note was that right guard D.J. Fluker appears to be fine after missing the final two offensive possessions Sunday due to a calf issue.

"He’s okay I think. I think he came out fine," Carroll said.

Running back J.D. McKissic will be given another week of rehab work before having a chance to return to practice next week. McKissic is currently eligible to do so, but isn't quite ready to get back to practice yet. He has been on injured reserve since the start of the season due to a foot injury. Once he returns to practice, he'll have up to three weeks to get re-acclimated before having to be added to the 53-man roster.

Carroll on Chargers averaging over seven yards per carry:

The Chargers offense was tremendously successful on the ground against Seattle on Sunday. The team averaged 7.3 yards per carry in the 25-17 win over the Seahawks.

"Four really big runs in the game.," Carroll said of the big average against them. "We made errors. We just made mistakes on the plays and they took full advantage. The very first play of the game (on defense), we gave away some fits that we’re not supposed to and the toss for the touchdown was a big mistake on our end, too."

Gordon also was incredibly effective, gashing the Seahawks defense for 113 yards on 16 carries. Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler also added 28 yards and 16 yards, respectively on a pair of jet sweeps as the Chargers rushed for 160 yards in total against Seattle.

"We just had to be cleaner and they were able – the tailback was really good and he took advantage of the space that he got. The receivers both had a couple – two different guys had good plays on the fly sweeps. I always tell you about the running game, it’s always about discipline and it’s always about being really strictly fitted together and we misfit some stuff and anticipation of some other things. Just needed to clean it up. Our players know exactly what they did (wrong). We saw the same plays later in the game and they made no yards. We just made some errors.”
