Seahawks sign former Broncos first-round pick QB Paxton Lynch

Chicago Bears v Denver Broncos

RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks have signed former Denver Broncos first-round pick Paxton Lynch to a future contract.

The move was first reported by Ian Furness of Sports Radio 950 KJR.

Lynch was selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by Denver with a draft pick that initially belonged to the Seahawks. Seattle traded the selection to the Broncos to pick up two later selections that became tackle Germain Ifedi and tight end Nick Vannett.

Lynch flamed out in Denver after just two seasons. Lynch couldn't beat out Trevor Siemian for a starting job and ultimately played in just five games with four starts for Denver in his two seasons with the team. Lynch completed 79 of 128 passes for 792 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 55 yards on 16 carries. The Broncos were 1-3 in Lynch's four starts.

Lynch was released by the Broncos at the end of training camp last season and did not sign with another team the rest of the year.

Because rosters don't expand until March, the contract signed by Lynch will take effect upon the start of the new league year. Former Los Angeles Rams kicker Sam Ficken and former Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Jamie Meder have also signed future deals with the team. Also, nine of the the team's 10 practice squad players at season's end also signed future contract with the exception being quarterback Alex McGough, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars instead.

With Brett Hundley scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, Lynch becomes the only quarterback beside Russell Wilson under contract with the team for 2019.
