Russell Wilson announces deal with Seahawks: "Hey Seattle, we got a deal"

Russell Wilson has a new contract with the Seahawks.

In a video posted to his Twitter account at 12:44 a.m., Wilson, alongside his wife, Ciara, announced that they had a new deal with the Seahawks.

Hey Seattle, we got a deal," Wilson said.

Wilson and Ciara then both added a "Go Hawks!" before Wilson implored everyone to go to bed.

"I'm going to see y'all in the morning. Time for y'all to go to bed," Wilson said.

Wilson and his agent, Mark Rodgers, had reportedly given the Seahawks a deadline of Monday to get a new deal worked out. According to Peter King of NBC Sports, discussions would cease completely with Seattle if a deal was not reached. Despite the Seahawks being able to use the franchise tag on Wilson for each of the next two years, King's report said that Wilson's side would not be amenable to any future talks about a new contract. Whether such a stance was merely posturing for negotiations or a legitimate line of demarcation is unclear, but it ultimately doesn't matter now with a deal having been reached.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports that the deal is worth $140 million in new money with a $65 million signing bonus. The contract makes Wilson the highest-paid player in the NFL, surpassing Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, the deal is a four-year extension that will make the total contract a five-year deal worth $157 million. That combines the $140 million of the new deal and the $17 million Wilson was set to make in 2019 in the final year of his existing contract.

Rodgers signed a four-year extension with the Packers last year worth $134 million with $57.5 million signing bonus with $98.2 million in total guarantees and $78.7 million fully guaranteed, per OverTheCap.com. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Wilson will receive $107 million guaranteed and his contract contains a no-trade clause.
