Four Killed In Shootout After Cops Chase Stolen UPS Truck In Florida

Four people were killed after a group of thieves stole a UPS truck and led police on a wild chase through the streets of South Florida. Police say the robbery suspects held up a jewelry store in Coral Gables and shot a female employee. They ran outside and stole a U-Haul truck as they tried to get away.

The pair ditched the U-Haul truck and decided to steal a UPS truck as the driver was making deliveries. The suspects took the driver hostage at gunpoint and fled as officers from five different law enforcement agencies joined the chase. The armed robbers led police on a roughly 20-mile chase before they got stuck in traffic at a red light. The suspects started shooting at the officers from the truck in the middle of the rush hour traffic.

The officers returned fire, shooting over 200 rounds at the truck. The two suspects and the UPS driver were killed. A motorist was caught in the crossfire and also died.

Officials have not released the identity of the suspects. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Frank Ordonez, who was delivering packages on his own for the first time.

UPS issued a statement offering condolences to Ordonez's family and the other victims.

"We are deeply saddened to learn a UPS service provider was a victim of this senseless act of violence. We extend our condolences to the family and friends of our employee and the other innocent victims involved in this incident. We appreciate law enforcement’s service and will cooperate with the authorities as they continue the investigation."
