The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with defensive end Benson Mayowa, according to agent David Canter.
Mayowa returns to Seattle after beginning his professional career with the Seahawks and winning a Super Bowl in 2013. Mayowa participated in a regional combine at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center and signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He appeared in just two games for Seattle that season before moving on to stops with the Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals in the years since.
Mayowa is coming off a career-high seven sacks last season for the Raiders as a rotational pass rusher. He's appeared in 87 career games over seven seasons since going undrafted out of the University of Idaho. His seven sacks last year came on just 302 total defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.
The Seahawks have needed to add significant help at defensive end this offseason coming off a year when Rasheem Green led the team with four sacks. Bringing back Mayowa and Bruce Irvin help add depth and versatility to the pass rush group while the team continues to pursue top rushers such as Jadeveon Clowney and Everson Griffen that remain unsigned.
Mayowa's deal is for one year and worth over $3 million in fully guaranteed salary with incentives capable of pushing the deal over $4 million in total, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
