The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with former Houston Texans running back Carlos Hyde, according to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Per Rapoport, the deal is worth up to $4 million on a one-year deal.

The Seahawks had also reportedly been exploring a deal with former Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman. An offer had been extended to Freeman in the same ball part as the one Hyde accepted from Seattle. Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reported that negotiations with Freeman had reached a standstill with the team moving on toward Hyde instead. Mike Silver of the NFL Network would later report that Freeman apparently intends to sit out the entire season if he doesn't get an offer he believes sufficiently reflects his value.

Hyde eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career last year with the Texans. Hyde rushed for 1,070 yards and scored six touchdowns for the Texans. It was his only year in Houston after spending the first four years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers and the 2018 split between the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Silver reported that Hyde had surgery in February to address a torn labrum in his shoulder that he played through during the 2019 season. Seattle's signing of Hyde would indicate they are satisfied medically that Hyde will be ready for the upcoming season.

Hyde provides some veteran depth at running back as Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny both work back from season-ending injuries. While Carson is fully expected to be ready for the season, Penny is likely headed to the physically unable to perform list to begin the year. Hyde adds some additional veteran insurance behind Carson along with second-year running back Travis Homer and rookie fourth-round pick DeeJay Dallas.
