Randall promoted, Kendricks signed to p-squad; Antonio Brown rumors

Arizona Cardinals v Seattle Seahawks

RENTON -- The first full day of practice back after the bye week for the Seahawks proved to be one full of updates on the team, including rumors tying Seattle to a brilliant, but boneheaded, wide receiver.

The Seahawks signed safety Damarious Randall from their practice squad to the active roster to take the place of Lano Hill, who was placed on injured reserve due to ongoing back issues that have forced him to miss the last three games. Carroll had indicated that Hill had not been making progress in his recovery and that where excited to see more from Randall during his meeting with reporters on Monday.

Lano's got some issues with his back that haven't really turned in the right direction. We're looking after him right now. He's not ready to come back yet," Carroll said.

"I hope that we'll get to see more of Randall as we're going forward. He's a good ball player and he's been around us now enough as he's starting to dig in so I'm excited about what he can add."

Additionally, the team re-signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks and added linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong to the practice squad.

Kendricks has spent parts of the last two seasons with the team but have had both campaigns ended early due to injuries. He fractured his tibia in 2018 and tore an ACL last season. Both injuries came in December games.

"We used him all over the place when he was here the last couple of years, so we're really excited to get him back," Carroll said on Wednesday. "We're thrilled that Mike will take this time to get himself football shape. He's a well conditioned kid, and he's strong as hell. So it's none of that stuff. He just needs to get football-wise ready, and I'm happy that he's here. I really like Mike, and I'm glad that he's with us."

Armstrong is a seven-year veteran that has spent time with the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints an Dallas Cowboys.

Antonio Brown (again) connected to Seahawks:

It's not the first time but there was a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com on Wednesday connecting the Seahawks with free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown with Seattle as a possible destination for the troubled receiver.

Brown has been out of football since early last season after a slew of incidents with the Oakland Raiders and legal issues off the field. The report by ESPN stated the Seahawks "are now positioned to make a push to sign Brown," though it also indicated that they have not spoken with Brown about a contract as he continues to serve out an eight-game suspension for the off-field issues.

Head coach Pete Carroll was asked about the report on Wednesday and didn't rule out the idea of Brown joining the Seahawks.

"We have endeavored to be in on everything that's going on and John (Schneider) has done a marvelous job of always being tuned in to what's happening. And this is no exception. So we'll see what happens as we go forward. But we're tuned in to what's happening there," Carroll said.

However, it should be noted that the Seahawks almost always say they explore every deal and consider every possibility.

"We're nowhere there right now," Carroll said. "Let's wait and see what happens and all that. We do all of the homework we can think of doing. We will never think that we can leave a stone unturned. That's how we approach everything. So we'll continue to do that here."

Brown bombed out after signing with the Raiders after a string of incidents that included freezing his feet in a cryotherapy incident, refusing to practice with the team, and lodging a fight with the NFL about which helmet he wanted to wear after the version he had previous used had been decertified.

Brown ended up playing one game with the New England Patriots before legal issues that included sexual assault charges were levied against him. He has been out of the league ever since and is currently suspended. He is eligible to be signed after two more weeks on the sidelines.

Injury Updates:

Four players sat out practice for the Seahawks on Wednesday: safety Jamal Adams (groin), cornerback Quinton Dunbar (knee/rest), guard Damien Lewis (ankle) and tackle Brandon Shell (illness).

Adams has missed the last two games and has yet to participate in either of the team's two practices this week.

Carroll said that he would be held out on Wednesday and they are waiting to determine if he's fully back up to speed.

Cornerback Quinton Dunbar missed two games with a knee issue but was given the day off on Wednesday as a rest day. The knee issue appears to be a matter the team will have to manage throughout the season.

"He can't practice all the rep, he has to take a lot of mental reps, but we're expecting him to continue to help us. But at the same time we have to make sure that we practice him right so that he'll be able to play for us on Sundays," defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. said.

Lewis injured his ankle in the win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, but has played in both games since without issue. Shell's illness would not be COVID-19 related as he would be placed on the reserve list should it be necessary.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks (knee), guard Mike Iupati (back) and defensive tackle Anthony Rush (knee) were all limited after either missing, or being injured in, the last game against Minnesota.
