Kliff Kingsbury Talks Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and USC

Dan Patrick speaks with former Texas Tech head coach and current offensive coordinator for USC Football, Kliff Kingsbury about his new job, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and much more.

Patrick asks Kingsbury about his time playing for the New England Patriots and to share a story about Tom Brady. Kingsbury talks about the work ethic of Brady and how even though they were at a resort for a wedding in the Bahamas, the morning before the event Brady was found with his assistant doing "resistant-band drop-sprint-throws.

Dan Patrick then asks Kliff Kingsbury about losing his job at Texas Tech:

Had an incredible run...Kirby Hocutt gave me six years to try and get us to that next level. It felt like we made great strides but didn't quite get where we needed to get.

Dan Patrick asks how close Kingsbury was to joining the Los Angeles Rams:

Close. I really have a ton of respect for Sean McVay and what he's done. He's a great dude who treats people the right way, innovative on offense, high energy...Would've loved to see, on a daily basis, how he does things and would've tried to contribute any way I can but just felt like this was the right spot for me at the right time.

Kliff Kingsbury on the most naturally talented player out of Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Johnny Manziel:

All three have ridiculous traits:

  • Manziel: Johnny's playmaking ability, his quick twitch making people miss, his sense of spatial awareness was insane.
  • Mayfield: Phenomenal, accurate, big time arm. A cerebral player who can diagnose a defense as good as anybody.
  • Mahomes: Ability to throw from different angles and arm dexterity and move in different platforms and see the entire field.

Each one had things they did that are as good as anybody has ever done in the history of football really.

On whether Kingsbury has seen a better arm than Patrick Mahomes:

I have not...Natural arm talent and throwing ability since day one.
