Doug Gottlieb: Lamar Jackson is Unlikely to Have Long-Term NFL Success

Doug Gottlieb: “Lamar Jackson’s sycophants will say he’s just a kid and you can’t take away from his MVP season, but what if I told you he was a home favorite against a Wild Card team in both of his playoff losses? Would that change your mind? The Lamar critique is not about age or race, it’s about nothing more than we have 30-40 years of history that show us that THAT type of quarterback has a short-term benefit, and long term it becomes increasingly difficult. Then you point out the injury factor, which is impossible not to mention.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why NFL fans and media members around the league need to be realistic and sensible when it comes to projecting the future of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Jackson is coming off one of the most impressive statistical seasons in league history, but not only failed to win a playoff game for the second straight year, but ended up having his worst games of the season in both his playoff exits as well.

His biggest supporters would say Jackson is already one of the league’s best quarterbacks and will compete with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for MVPs the next decade.

His most vocal detractors would say his immaculate success is only short-term like Robert Griffin III, Cam Newton, and Colin Kaepernick, and that his playing style is principally flawed.

So where does that leave the average fan?

Check out the video above as Gottlieb explains why the odds will be against Jackson when it comes to overcoming the usual limitations of a running quarterback.
